History

Born in 1877, Carl Baguhn trained as an engine fitter in Hamburg. After completing his apprenticeship, he spent some time in the merchant navy, after which he gained experience as a fitter with a number of engineering firms. In 1905, he decided to strike out on his own, setting up a small workshop in the Hamburg suburb of St. Pauli. With great foresight, the young entrepreneur began to focus on the repair of combustion engines, to cater for the rapid development of automobiles.

In doing so, he founded Hamburg's first workshop for the grinding of cylinders and crankshafts. The further expansion of his fledgling company was halted by the First World War. With his characteristic energy, Carl Baguhn started all over again when the war ended, and had soon set up new and more modern machines.

In 1928, the company moved to larger facilities in Glashüttenstrasse.

In the course of time, the business expanded into the field of marine engine repairs. Even the considerable destruction to the works wreaked by bombing attacks in 1943 were not able to stop the "old man" and his crew from continuing to build up the company.

In 1957, new premises were built on a company-owned site in Wendenstrasse.

Engine technology had always fascinated this dynamic businessman, constantly driving him to expand his business. After the death of Carl Baguhn in March 1965, his life's work was continued by his son Henry.

Unfortunately, Henry Baguhn passed away suddenly in 1978.

Karl-Friedrich Buck then took over the helm as principal shareholder and managing director.

In the years that followed, foreign business relations were built up and a number of distribution agreements were concluded.

However, an old problem soon arose for Carl Baguhn Hamburg: once gain, there was too little space for the business.
This time, the decision fell in favour of an extension to the building instead of complete relocation. A new fabrication hall was built to house, amongst other sections, the workshop and the sales rooms of the VOLVO PENTA department.

In 2002, Sven Buck became the next generation of management at Carl Baguhn Hamburg.
